Rory Loy tore into Rangers boss Philippe Clement for “pulling the wool” over the eyes of supporters ahead of the 1-1 draw against Dundee United.
Sam Dalby added to the Belgian’s woes at Ibrox and could have nailed the final nail in the coffin as his first-half strike secured an unlikely draw for Jim Goodwin after Vaclav Cerny equalised for the Light Blues.
Loy held nothing back when offering his verdict on Clement’s tenure live on BBC Sportscene [23 November, 3:30pm] as the pundit believes the Gers supporters are no longer buying into what the Belgian has to say.
He said: “Clement always comes out and says his side dominated the game. If that’s his opinion then it’s his opinion, but there’s a fine line between defending your players and pulling the wool over the eyes of supporters.
“He constantly says he’s signing young players who take time to adapt. Cerny is 27, Bajrami is 25, Propper is 31, Diomande is 23. Okay, Barron is younger, but these are facts. How can you say this and expect people to buy into it? It’s just not true.”
Philippe Clements lies have caught up with him at Rangers
If there were any lingering doubts about whether Rangers would pull the trigger and dismiss Clement, there would not be anymore after another hope-crushing result at Ibrox.
The Belgian spoke to the press in the build-up to the match on Saturday to directly address the ongoing speculation regarding his future and commit himself to the Gers.
However, despite reports linking the boss as the front-runner for the vacant Belgium national side position [Daily Record], the decision is undoubtedly out of his hands.
Rangers are believed to be ready to pull the trigger if the side falls 12-14 points behind Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership, and right now that cannot be ruled out entirely.
How long will John Gilligan put the supporters through the torture of Clement’s reign in charge?
The Light Blues have lost two and drawn once from their last five SPFL outings, and while the Aberdeen loss can be somewhat justifiable, losing to Kilmarnock and settling for a draw against Dundee United is embarrassing for a club of this stature.
It is time to put Clement and the supporters out of their misery. This poor run has persisted for long enough, and as Loy alludes to it, the Belgian is delusional if he believes he should be allowed to continue at Ibrox.
