Keith Hackett believes that referee Nick Walsh was right to abruptly end the minute’s silence for Remembrance Day ahead of the fixture between Celtic and Kilmarnock.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-FIFA and Premier League referee claimed that “it’s a pity that wasn’t observed” by fans in this particular game.
The footballing world all paid their respects by having a minute’s silence before each game kicked off this past weekend for Remembrance Day, but the tribute was not fully observed during Celtic’s match against Kilmarnock.
The travelling Hoops fans could be heard singing and booing as the rest of the stadium was silent, which led to Walsh making an impromptu decision to end it before the full minute was up.
He took the initiative to blow the whistle and end the silence due to the noise coming from the Celtic fans.

Hackett told Football Insider, “The referee used a great deal of common sense.
“It’s a great pity when generally, across England, Scotland, no doubt Wales, and even grassroots levels, we have seen Remembrance Day acted out very positively and crowds demonstrating quietness and respect.
“It’s a pity that wasn’t observed in this situation [at Celtic]; the referee has done the right thing.
“Well done to him.”
