Bryan King expects Rodrigo Bentancur to start for Tottenham against Roma on Thursday.

The ex-Spurs scout believes that Yves Bissoma will be the player to make way.

Bentancur missed Spurs’ 4-0 Premier League victory over Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday [23 November] as he serves a seven-match suspension handed to him by the Football Association.

However, the 27-year-old is still eligible to play in Europe, and King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – expects him to start at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium against Roma [28 November].

“Postecoglou is going to have to make some changes against Roma,” King said.

“For starters, Fraser Forster will need to come in of course. I think Bentancur will certainly start, with Bissouma the player to make way for him.

“I think there might be some changes in and around the attack, perhaps in the wide areas. You’ve got Brennan Johnson who could come into the side.”

Rodrigo Bentancur to replace Yves Bissouma for Tottenham v Roma?

Bissouma picked up a yellow card inside the first minute against Manchester City. However, he was able to complete the full 90 minutes while walking that tightrope, which was rather impressive.

Therefore, after his performance at the Etihad Stadium, he might feel as though he deserves to keep his place in the side. However, the games are set to come thick and fast in December, and Postecoglou needs to rest players where he can, which could lead him to make as many as six changes against Roma.

With Bentancur unavailable to play domestically for the foreseeable future, it makes sense for the Uruguay international to start Spurs’ European matches during that time, which would then offer Bissouma or perhaps another midfield the opportunity to rest.

In other Tottenham news, the club are eyeing a transfer for a brand-new goalkeeper.
