King predicts Tottenham have compiled January transfer shortlist after recent injury setback

Bryan King expects that Tottenham will have a shortlist of potential goalkeepers they want to sign in January.

The ex-Spurs scout believes the club would have started compiling a list as soon as Guglielmo Vicario underwent surgery for a fracture of his right ankle on Monday [25 November], which could see him sidelined for more than two months.

According to Ange Postecoglou [via Fabrizio Romano, 27 November], Spurs do not play on signing a brand-new goalkeeper in January.

However, King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – does not believe this is the case.

“I’d imagine Spurs have already compiled a list of possible goalkeepers they could sign in January,” King said.

“That would have been done over the past couple of days since Vicario underwent his surgery. Therefore, now it is up to Forster to prove that he is a reliable number two.

“He is going to be starting in some big games coming up. He will be part of the Carabao Cup quarter-final, European games and Premier League games.”

Tottenham to sign brand-new goalkeeper in January?

Although Postecoglou has indicated the club does not plan on signing a goalkeeper in January, that doesn’t mean plans can’t change.

James Trafford is expected to be one of the players the club are looking at ahead of the winter window [via talkSPORT, 26 November].

Postecoglou might intend to stick by Fraser Forster as his number one for now.

However, if Forster puts in some poor displays over the coming months, as he already has done this season, Postecoglou could quickly have a change of heart.
