'No negotiation' - King predicts how much Tottenham player will accept to terminate contract

Bryan King expects Sergio Reguilón to accept £1million from Tottenham to terminate his contract with the club in January.

The ex-Spurs scout thinks the left-back will be offered a third of his remaining wages in North London.

As reported by the Sunday Mirror [24 November, page 66], Reguilón is prepared to leave Tottenham by terminating his £120,000-a-week contract.

However, King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes it will the the club who set the termination terms, without any room for negotiation.

“He is the one who wants it terminated,” King said.

“Therefore, if he wants to get away as bad as he says he does, Tottenham’s offer will be accepted, and it will be goodbye. He won’t get his full salary that is for sure, he will get a third of it.

“As soon as he leaves at the beginning of January, he is free to go and join another club. He will be told what he is going to get, and that is what he will accept. There is no negotiation here.”

Sergio Reguilón to terminate his contract with Tottenham in January?

As of the beginning of January, Reguilón will have 25 weeks left on his contract with Tottenham.

At £120,000-per-week, that is another £3million. Therefore, should the defender accept a third of that, he will still be walking away from North London with £1million and the chance to agree a lucrative contract with a new club as a free agent, with Brentford previously being tipped as a potential destination.

Ange Postecoglou clearly doesn’t plan to include the defender in his first team anytime soon. As a result, he won’t lose any sleep over Reguilón leaving.

However, from the club’s perspective, it represents a big financial loss and is something they must learn from.
