Daniel Levy looks open to selling shares of Tottenham with Amanda Staveley strongly linked to return to English football in North London.

Staveley stepped down from her role at Newcastle in the summer after playing a massive role in the Saudi Public Investment Fund’s takeover on Tyneside and becoming a director at St James’ Park.

The Mirror reported on 28 September that the 51-year-old financier is in advanced talks to buy a “sizeable stake” at Spurs with Levy seeking new investment.

Joe Lewis’ influence at Tottenham is diminishing, which has opened the door for the likes of Staveley to get a slice of the pie with her and her husband Mehrdad Ghodoussi expected to by some of the 87-year-old’s shares.

It was reported two months ago that Staveley was hopeful of getting a deal done in a matter of weeks. Obviously, as time has progressed, it’s clear that timeline was a bit off.

But news emerging this week means that the ex-Magpies director could be one step closer to personally taking over at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Will Amanda Staveley be the new Tottenham owner?

The Times reported on 25 November that Barclays have accepted a £40million fine from the Financial Conduct Authority over “controversial deals the bank struck to avoid a taxpayer rescue during the 2008 crisis”.

According to TBR Football, Staveley is also claiming compensation from Barclays.

It is understood that she’s seeking up to £830million at the International Chamber of Commerce in Paris and based on the FCA’s recent ruling, the ICC could go down a similar route.

It’s a lot of money that could not only help Staveley and Ghodoussi get their foot in the door at Tottenham, it could help pave the way to a full takeover of the North London club.

Football finance expert Dr Dan Plumley has previously told Tottenham News that Spurs are now valued at £5.6billion.

If Staveley wins 100 per cent of her claim and uses that to buy into Spurs, it means she’d only own roughly 14 per cent of the club, based on Plumley’s valuation.

However, it still puts her on the map and a “hostile takeover” of the Premier League club has been previously mooted.

In other Tottenham news, Timo Werner looks destined to leave Spurs amid news about Manchester United.
