King shares concern about big-name Tottenham star after what he noticed v Man City

Bryan King isn’t convinced that Tottenham captain Son Heung-min is “100 per cent fit”.

The ex-Spurs scout noticed the South Korea international looked unhappy after he was substituted in his side’s 4-0 Premier League win over Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium [23 November], a match which left Jude Bellingham blown away by one Spurs player.

Son was brought off in the 63rd minute against the Premier League champions, with Spurs already 3-0 up.

However, despite the North London side going on to win the match and keep a clean sheet, King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – believes bringing the 32-year-old off early in matches is disruptive.

“Son should be controlling the left-wing position,” King said.

“Spurs’ play is often disrupted with Son being substituted so frequently. I’m not sure he is 100 per cent fit at the moment. There is obviously something in question here.

“There was a period toward the end of the game against Manchester City where Son didn’t look entirely happy, while he was on the bench.”

Son Heung-min struggling for fitness at Tottenham?

Son has only completed 90 minutes once for Spurs in his last four starts, being hooked before the 64th minute on each of the other three occasions.

Therefore, it is natural that questions will be raised with the forward having come off early in matches so frequently as of late. However, Son is now in his thirties and has suffered from various injury setbacks this season.

Therefore, Ange Postecoglou might simply be trying to manage Son’s minutes to avoid any further issues.

Spurs look set to have at least another year of Son to look forward to [via Florian Plettenberg, 22 November]. Therefore, they will want to keep him fit and firing, which means managing his minutes.

With that in mind, the Australian would perhaps be wise to rest his captain when Spurs take on Roma in the UEFA Europa League at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday [28 November].
