King suggests big-name Tottenham star could be dissatisfied after 'Ridiculous' interview

Bryan King doesn’t think Cristian Romero is satisfied at Tottenham despite a recent transfer admission.

The ex-Spurs scout has blasted the central defender for discussing speculation linking him with a move away from North London.

It comes after Romero told ESPN F90 (via The Mirror, 3 August), “I always strive to play at my best. I have a lot of respect for Tottenham.

“They’ve always given me a lot of support here, so I like playing here. I don’t think about other clubs or their possibilities.

“I know there’s a lot of talk about a possible move, but I’m calm. At my club, I play differently to the national team, more forward. I still have years left in Europe and I want to see where I can go. Hopefully this year we can win a title at Tottenham.”

And King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – has reminded Romero where his priorities should lie at all times.

“It is ridiculous that he has even come out and done an interview like this,” King said.

“He is under contract with Tottenham, he plays regular first-team football with the club which offers him the opportunity to play and win titles with Argentina.

“The trouble with footballers and their agents is that some are never satisfied. Romero plays for a very big club and earns a lot of money. His priority should always be to the club he is contracted to and the fans.

“Talk about moves elsewhere is good because it has come from the way he is playing for Tottenham. He has been very impressive in games.

“However, until Tottenham want to sell you, or your contract runs out, don’t worry about or discuss outside speculation, just focus on the job at hand.”

Cristian Romero to quit the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium?

It is hard not to read between the lines with Romero’s comments.

While on the surface it appears as though the 26-year-old is confirming his desire to stay in North London, phrases such as “I want to see where I can go” might not fill supporters with confidence.

Although he appeared to be shutting down any exit rumours, it might have been better for the Argentine to not say anything at all.

His admission that he wants to win a title with Spurs puts pressure on the club and suggests that he might become unhappy if his goals are not achieved soon.
