Lambert makes Rangers 'Pressure' claim after latest Old Firm loss

Paul Lambert has stated that the longer that Celtic dominate Rangers, the more pressure it puts on both the club and Philippe Clement.

The first Old Firm derby of the season took place on Sunday (1 September), with the Gers once again losing to their arch-rivals.

This not only extended Clement’s poor run of form against the Bhoys but also increased the pressure placed upon his shoulders.

Speaking to PLZ Soccer (2 September), Lambert shared that he doesn’t believe that the Gers have what it takes to dethrone his former club this season.

“The longer this [Celtic dominating] goes on, the more pressure it keeps on Rangers,” Lambert said.

“Celtic need a strong Rangers as well but at the moment over a season, I don’t think they’ve got it.

“It might later on, maybe it does come but at this moment I’m not so sure it’s strong enough to compete with Celtic.”

Philippe Clement needs to regroup Rangers over the international break and come back stronger

Most Rangers fans expected the 2024/25 season to be different to the past few campaigns post-title win.

It felt like throughout the summer window, the transfers that were made were positive ones with players on big wages such as Todd Cantwell [The 4th Official, 31 August] and John Lundstram both exiting Ibrox.

Then, players such as Connor Barron [Scottish Sun, 23 August] and Jefte have arrived who are still a little ‘raw’ in places but have bags of potential and could develop into top-class players.

On paper it looked like the moves that were made had a lot of sense to them but following the Gers’ start to the season, that couldn’t be further from the truth.

They find themselves in fourth place behind both Aberdeen and Dundee United, and to make matters worse, they also managed to get romped by arch-rivals Celtic in the first Old Firm derby of the term.

Something needs to change sooner rather than later if Clement wishes to be taken seriously in the race for the Scottish Premiership title this term.
