John Wenham doesn’t think Tottenham will sign Timo Werner permanently.
The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose believes the German’s wages are too high for the North London club to commit to.
Spurs announced via their official website (28 May) that they had re-signed Werner on loan for the 2024/25 campaign with an option to make the deal permanent.
However, Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – doesn’t think Werner will be signed, no matter what he does this season.
“I don’t see Tottenham signing Werner permanently,” Wenham said.
“Even if he goes on to have a great season this year, considering his wages, I just think it is too much of an outlay to commit to permanently.
“Therefore, if the season were to finish next week, he would just be released. That would be the end of it, and Spurs would move on.”
Timo Werner to leave Tottenham at the end of the season?
Ange Postecoglou must have seen something he liked in Werner, otherwise the forward wouldn’t have been brought back to the club on loan for a second time.
However, the 28-year-old hasn’t made much of an impact this season, with ex-Spurs scout Bryan King even speculating that Werner has seemed unhappy.
Therefore, it seems unlikely that Postecoglou will push to bring the RB Leipzig ace to the club permanently.
Unless the Spurs loanee decides to take a wage cut, it seems that this season will be his last at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
