John Wenham has praised Fraser Forster for his display in the 1-0 win against AZ Alkmaar at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Thursday (24 October).
The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose was particularly impressed by the goalkeeper’s work outside of his penalty area.
Forster made just his second appearance of the season as Tottenham made it three wins from three in the UEFA Europa League.
And Wenham, who has been critical of Forster previously this season, – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – thought the 36-year-old looked much more confident.
“Spurs getting another win, and a clean sheet was particularly impressive,” Wenham said.
“Much has been said about Forster. However, I thought he was fantastic last night. He did well to come out of his box a couple of times and win the ball like a sweeper keeper does.
“He looked a lot more confident, much better than his last appearance. As a result, that will do his confidence the world of good.”
Fraser Forster impresses for Tottenham v AZ Alkmaar
Forster’s only other outing this season came in Spurs’ 2-1 win over Coventry City at the Coventry Building Society Arena in the third round of the Carabao Cup (18 September).
The North London side struggled that night, with Forster in particular underwhelming. Therefore, there were a few question marks over the senior shot-stopper, with calls to replace him in January.
However, Forster proved against AZ Alkmaar that he still has value in this Spurs team. As a result, Ange Postecoglou will be delighted.
The Australian now knows that he can call on Forster with confidence should he feel as though Guglielmo Vicario needs a break.
In other Tottenham news, Timo Werner could leave the club in January after a transfer update.
