John Wenham expects Tottenham and South Korea came to an agreement over Son Heung-min after his recent injury concerns.
The owner of the reputable Spurs podcast Lilywhite Rose feels that Son’s absence against Brighton on Sunday (6 October) was part of an agreement which would see him miss the October international break.
Son was absent from the Tottenham squad which lost 3-2 at the Amex Stadium despite leading 2-0 at half-time. The South Korea international has missed Spurs’ last three matches due to injury, with ex-Spurs scout Bryan King concerned about the severity of the issue.
However, Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – is hopeful that Son can return against West Ham at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium (19 October).
“On a larger scale, I think there was probably an agreement between Tottenham and South Korea over Son,” Wenham said.
“I imagine the agreement was that if he didn’t play for Spurs against Brighton then he would miss the South Korea games as well.
“If he had played at Brighton, I imagine he would have been expected to feature for South Korea. He is getting that bit older now. Therefore, Tottenham probably saw it as a better solution for him to rest and recover at Hotspur Way over the next couple of weeks.
“Hopefully, we then get a fit and firing Son ready to go against West Ham.”
Tottenham and South Korea reach agreement over Son Heung-min?
Postecoglou insisted before the defeat at Brighton that Son was “pushing hard” to return (via the Standard, 4 October). Therefore, it is safe to assume that the 32-year-old will be available by the time the international break is over.
Had Son returned against Brighton, he would have no doubt been expected to feature for South Korea. As a result, allowing him the opportunity to rest might prove wise come Saturday 19 October.
After a positive few weeks, things once again derailed for Spurs at the Amex Stadium. Therefore, Postecoglou will be hoping to have Son back as he looks to once again turn things around in North London.
In other Tottenham news, Postecoglou must hand one Under-21s player his first-team debut after “stunning” recent events.
