Philippe Clement now desperate to sell Rangers player - report

Philippe Clement is now “desperate” to sell Rangers wantaway Todd Cantwell, according to the Daily Record.

The Scottish newspaper reported in its print edition on 28 August [back page] that the playmaker has now “doubled down” on his desire to exit Ibrox.

This comes after the Belgian manager has been told that the only way for him to bring in further reinforcement is for him to get some of his first-team players off the books.

In fact, it has now been reported that Blackburn and Rangers have agreed a “low” transfer fee [Alan Nixon, 28 August] for Cantwell ahead of his impending move.

There’s no denying that Cantwell is an extremely talented player. However, during his time with Rangers, he hasn’t had the best of times.

The winger was brought in by Michael Beale before he departed from the club and failed to live up to the potential he showed earlier in his career.

The winger requested to exit Ibrox before the start of the Scottish Premiership season with his future being one of the most talked about subjects from the Gers’ transfer window.

And, as the ties between Cantwell and Clement have now evidently been burnt, it feels like the quicker the former Norwich man leaves, the better it would be for both parties.

Blackburn are the team who have been most recently linked with an interest [Alan Nixon, 27 August] and with their influx of cash from the Sammie Szmodics sale, a move would make sense.

The Gers still need to make further additions to their squad to try to make themselves more competitive against arch-rivals, Celtic.

But, without the exit of Cantwell, this can’t happen and Clement will likely find his team finishing in second once again.
