Philippe Clement is interested in bringing Hoffenheim’s Stanley N’Soki to Rangers ahead of the 30 August deadline, according to L’Equipe.
The French outlet reported on Tuesday (27 August) that discussions have been ongoing between the two parties over loaning the 25-year-old centre-back to Ibrox this summer.
It is understood that Hoffenheim could be open to loaning N’Soki out before the transfer window slams shut, with Clement having worked with the defender during their time at Club Brugge together.
Rangers to sign Stanley N’Soki before August 30?
The Gers are still searching for more centre-back options, even more so after Ben Davies’ loan move to Birmingham City in League One.
While the 29-year-old’s departure leaves Clement lacking depth in defence, with Leon Balogun, Robin Propper and John Souttar the only senior players available, it is clear Davies’ future lies elsewhere.
Clinton Nsiala is another centre-half at the club, though he has been training with the B team as he continues his development after arriving from AC Milan on a free transfer.
N’Soki, on the other hand, has plenty of experience across Europe, playing for Paris Saint-Germain, Nice, and Club Brugge, where Clement worked first-hand with the Frenchman.
It is understandable why the Belgian would want to bring a friendly face into the squad before the transfer window slams shut, and given the player’s number of appearances recently, a loan deal makes sense for all parties.
He made just seven Bundesliga starts last season, and with only one substitute appearance so far this term, N’Soki could push for the loan move in order to boost his career.
Given the ageing state of Clement’s current backline, the 25-year-old would be a very welcomed addition at Ibrox, but the Gers will need to speed up the initial talks if a deal is to be struck this summer.
