Rangers will appoint a “high-quality” individual as their new chairman despite news of Malcolm Offord’s move stalling.
That is the view of finance expert Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider the Scottish giants need a strong board to look at the issues they are facing and provide good insight moving forward.
Rangers announced on 25 November Patrick Stewart has been appointed as the club’s CEO and will begin his new role on 16 December – the day after they play Celtic in the Scottish League Cup final.
He left Manchester United at the end of last season after 18 years at Old Trafford, where he previously took on the interim CEO role.
Stewart was expected to be joined at Ibrox by Malcolm Offord after he emerged as the leading contender to replace John Bennett as the club’s new permanent chairman.
But The Scottish Sun reported on 3 December talks with the Scottish financier have now stalled after the two parties failed to reach an agreement.

Borson still expects Rangers to make a quality appointment if Offord doesn’t join the club.
“I think they need a high-quality chair,” Borson told Football Insider.
“They need a high-quality board of people that are looking at the issues they have got and are giving good insight.
“But I’m sure they will get somebody of very high quality as chair, so it won’t be a problem.
“You saw with the appointment of Patrick Stewart as CEO the attraction of Rangers.
“This is a massive football club.
“Do they need somebody of high quality? Of course.
“Will they find somebody of high quality? Yes, of course they will.
“It’s just a question of identifying that individual and going from there.”
