Ange Postecoglou has seen the bulk of his defence suffer injury setbacks in recent weeks.

The Australian has been without Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven, with an update being shared by Sky Sports reporter Michael Bridge via X (30 December) on when the latter will return.

Destiny Udogie became the latest first-team defender to suffer an injury setback in the 2-2 Premier League draw with Wolves at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday (29 December), with the Italian facing up to six weeks out.

As reported by Fabrizio Romano via X (30 December), Juventus defender Danilo is out of the club’s plans and available to be signed in January.

Therefore, Lilywhite Rose owner John Wenham – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – wants Spurs to go out and sign the 32-year-old to address the club’s defensive woes.

“Danilo could be an option for Spurs,” Wenham said.

“He is an experienced player who has played in the Premier League and for Brazil. Therefore, would he improve the options we currently have? Yes. People can’t tell me that he wouldn’t.

“There are options out there in January if Tottenham are smart and get things done quickly. We’re in a really unique situation with injuries. Therefore, sign Danilo early in January so that he can contribute for the second half of the season.”

Tottenham to sign Juventus defender Danilo?

It is no secret that Postecoglou needs defensive reinforcements. The Australian is under pressure in North London with Spurs having won just two of their last 10 matches in all competitions.

Therefore, the club’s transfer activity in January could determine whether Postecoglou remains with the club until the end of the season.

And when it comes to a player like Danilo, there is no excuse for the club not to sign him. A permanent deal would no doubt be cheap as Juventus are keen to move him on.

However, if Daniel Levy still doesn’t want to pay, the club could even explore a deal to sign him on loan. Therefore, there is no excuse not to get this deal done, on way or another.

In other Tottenham news, the club could cash in on Son Heung-min in January.
