Ange Postecoglou has “drawn a line in the sand” with Yves Bissouma after the Tottenham midfielder was handed an internal ban, Paul Robinson has said.
The manager confirmed a one-match ban for the 28-year-old after footage emerged of him allegedly inhaling laughing gas [Sky Sports], which also saw him fined by the club.
Bissouma came back into the starting XI with a bang against Everton, scoring a rocket in the 4-0 win, playing against Newcastle United and now impressing on international duty with Mali.
Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Robinson said: “I don’t think Ange is a man who holds grudges. I think the way Postecoglou dealt with the situation in his press conference was very matter-of-fact and very honest.
“He strikes me as the type of manager that once you’ve served your penance, that’s that. I think that’s what it is with Bissouma. I thought he was excellent against Everton.
“As far as the media and Postecoglou are concerned, that’s it, done, line in the sand. That’s the type of manager he is. You can see that, particularly in his performance against Everton.”
Yves Bissouma decision made after Tottenham drama
Footballers often believe they are invincible, so Spurs have handled the situation extremely well. It would be incredibly foolish to lose such a good player over a silly incident.
Bissouma has the potential to be a very important player for Postecoglou, especially as the Lilywhites prepare for Europe League football this season, having already opened his goalscoring for the season.
He has also scored in both matches for Mali during the international break, helping his nation to secure four points from a possible six against Mozambique and Eswatini.
There is disarray between players and managers at many clubs across the world, but if Postecoglou can keep such a tightly-run ship, there should be no more issues emerging at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
In other Tottenham News, Postecoglou has been handed a boost as injury footage emerges of an Arsenal star.
