Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite will start for England at the FIFA World Cup 2026 under Thomas Tuchel, believes Tony Scott.
The Liverpool Echo journalist admitted that it was baffling to see the 22-year-old on the bench in recent games for the Toffees.
Sean Dyche has started Michael Keane over Branthwaite but gave the nod to the latter on Saturday, 9 November, against West Ham.
Via X, Scott said: “I’d wager Jarrard Branthwaite will start for England at the World Cup under Tuchel.
Makes it even more baffling he’s been sat on Everton’s bench for the past three weeks!”
Jarrad Branthwaite is the best player at Everton
Dyche is doing himself no favours by omitting Branthwaite as he’s not just the best defender at the club, he’s perhaps the best player at the club.
The manager knows this as he saw how he dominated against the big sides which is why he was in demand over the summer.
Keane is a bench player at best and he cannot be starting games regularly for Everton at this level.
Branthwaite has been called up to the senior England side and it remains to be seen if Lee Carlsley hands him starts in the Nations League.
He was left out of the final Euro 2024 squad by Gareth Southgate after making the provisional team and he would want to be on the plane to the United States in 2026.
There is a case to be made for him being the best left-footed centre-back in the country and in two years he is only expected to get better.
