Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed Liverpool could bank even more than £60million a year from their new Adidas deal.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – suggested performance-based clauses are likely to give the Reds an opportunity to bring in a mega-money windfall.
According to The Guardian (22 October), Liverpool expect to make more than £60million a year from the new kit deal with Adidas – which kicks off for the start of the 2025-26 season.
Liverpool currently receive £30million a year from Nike as a guaranteed base figure, with the report claiming the difference is made up of commercial tie-ins, performance bonuses and royalty payments.
Man United bring in the biggest kit deal in the Premier League, with the German sportswear paying the Red Devils £90million per season.
Liverpool Adidas deal likely to have performance-based clauses, says Wyness
Wyness hailed Liverpool’s commercial deal for striking the new agreement.
He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “I’d expect this deal to be performance-based.
“Most of these deals now are structured that way around how far you go in the Champions League, because that is a lot of exposure.
“I think it could go higher than £60million if they do well.
“The commercial team have done a great job, they’re now among the most valuable sponsorship assets in the world.
“Billy Hogan, the CEO, has done a good job.
“It’s where Liverpool should be. They attract big TV numbers, they’ve got one of the biggest global fanbases – so it makes sense for Adidas to pay top dollar.”
