Derek Ferguson would love to see Rangers complete a deal for Motherwell teenager Lennon Miller to add to Connor Barron.
The Light Blues are interested in signing the second young midfielder and have been scouting him during preseason [Football Scotland, 10 July] after bringing in Barron from Aberdeen as his contract expired.
Ex-Ibrox favourite Ferguson believes it is an obvious course of action this summer after ignoring the best Scottish talent too often in recent years.
He is a huge fan of the way the 17-year-old sensation plays after watching him at Fir Park multiple times and for Rangers he feels it is a “no-brainer” of a transfer.
Speaking exclusively to Ibrox News he said: “I’ve watched a lot of the boy over the course of the last season at a number of the Motherwell games.
“Yep, a 17-year-old but he plays like a 27-year-old, so mature for his age. He’s obviously a terrific footballer but for a young man he’s got a real physicality about him.
“For me it’s a no-brainer. I think Rangers have missed a trick over the past number of years by not scouting enough of the young Scottish talent. He’s a top player. His old man, his dad, was a top player as well.
“It’s good to see we’ve got young Barron through the door, I’d love to see Miller [too].”
Rangers want Motherwell midfielder amid Philippe Clement overhaul
Barron may have already departed Aberdeen when the Gers picked up him but the subsequent wrangling over compensation suggests that was arguably the trickier proposition out of the two stand-out Scottish Premiership youngsters.
Since Nils Koppen and Philippe Clement have pushed through that deal then it is not such a surprise that they are also now looking at Miller, who has entered the penultimate year of his contract [BBC Sport, 8 May].
Motherwell may be easier to negotiate with than the Dons are proving to be and with senior targets proving difficult to secure currently [Andy Devlin, 12 July] perhaps a talent who plays beyond his years could be an alternative.
In other Rangers news, a Championship side south of the border is looking to sign a striker who has left the Light Blues.
