A Manchester City fan has died after a medical emergency ahead of yesterday’s derby with Manchester United.

The unnamed spectator collapsed outside the Etihad Stadium shortly before kick-off at 4.30pm.

A witness said: ‘We were going into the grounds at entrance K and the gent was on the floor having CPR performed on him.

‘It had just happened as there were only a few people in front of us. There was one steward working on him, and we were all screaming for them to get a defibrillator. It was chaos.

‘A young girl ran over to get the defibrillator. At this point more stewards came running over and formed a circle around him.

‘They worked on him for a long time, about 20 minutes and he was taken into an ambulance. We are all traumatised by it.’

The Premier League Champions issued a statement today. It said: ‘Manchester City are aware of the tragic news that one of our supporters passed away following a medical incident at yesterday’s match.

‘The thoughts of everyone at the Club are with their family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.’

Despite going ahead through Josko Gvardiol’s first-half header, the home side were stunned by two late United goals as they fell to a 2-1 defeat to make it just one win in 11 games in all competitions for the defending Premier League champions.

Mattheus Nunes bundled Amad Diallo over in the box, with Bruno Fernandes duly converting from the spot to equalise in the 88th minute.

And Ruben Amorim’s side found their winner just two minutes later when Amad brought down Lisando Martinez’s through ball superbly before rounding Ederson and finishing into the vacant net.

The Portuguese coach becomes the first United manager since Sir Alex Ferguson to win their first Manchester derby, easing the pressure after back-to-back league defeats against Arsenal and Nottingham Forest.
