Man United Sources: Significant update on Adrien Rabiot deal this evening

Man United are unlikely to make a move to sign Adrien Rabiot despite his availability on a free, sources have told Football Insider.

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed that the addition of Manuel Ugarte to Erik ten Hag’s midfield means United are now comfortable with their depth in his position.

Meanwhile, question marks have risen over the wage demands and additional pay packet the midfielder is requesting as part of any deal.

Clubs have been put off a move for his signature due to the request for a large sign-on fee, which has played a large part in why nobody has snapped him up as of yet.

Newcastle United and Liverpool are among clubs to have shown an interest in the midfielder during the summer, but no move has materialised yet.

Sources say the 29-year-old has been selective over any proposals he has received, and wants to continue playing at the highest level in Europe.

Rabiot is a regular in Didier Dechamps’ France squad, but missed out on the side for Euro 2024 and was excluded from the recent international camp while he remains a free agent.

Having left Juventus at the end of last season after making 212 appearances for the club since his move from PSG in 2019.

The midfielder remains one of the most high-profile free agents still on the market, and clubs across Europe remain interested in the possibility of his arrival in the near future.

He would also bring plenty of experience in winning silverware to his new club, having lifted seven league titles, 16 domestic trophies and the UEFA Nations League across spells with Juventus, PSG and France.

However, United will not be one of the clubs pursuing a move for his signature despite showing an initial interest in exploring the deal.

Casemiro’s decline and the lack of strong backups in the deeper midfield role had raised the possibility of Rabiot becoming an option for United.

However, a late deal to sign Ugarte from PSG has left Ten Hag content with his current squad and the club are content to see Rabiot go elsewhere.
