Mark Goldbridge tells PL club to dodge Everton 'Ransom' with £50m summer move for star

Mark Goldbridge has told Manchester United to not offer more than £50million upfront for Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite this summer.

The Red Devils are keen to bring the England international to Old Trafford this summer and while personal terms have reportedly been agreed upon, United’s first offer has been declined [David Ornstein, 14 June].

Sean Dyche’s side are understood to be looking for a fee in the region of £70million for the 22-year-old and while talkSPORT’s Goldbridge wants to see him in Manchester, he doesn’t want United to be held to ransom.

Speaking on Toffee TV on Friday (28 June) he said: “I like Branthwaite and I want him to come to Manchester United, I think he’s a really good player.

“I don’t want to spend £80million, £70million or £60million on Branthwaite because I know what our budget is and we need to bring in six or seven players, on the other hand, Everton have got their own corner to fight and I understand that.

“I think Man United cannot be held to ransom over this, we’ve got to go that we’re willing to walk away if we have to because the price is too much and I think £50million up front with add-ons is as high as I would go.”

Will Jarrad Branthwaite exit Everton for summer Manchester United transfer?

After plenty of speculation leading up and in the early stages of the summer transfer window, talk around Branthwaite’s future and a potential move to Old Trafford has gone quiet very quickly over the last few days.

The Toffees don’t want to lose their star defender and even with their previous PSR concerns, they insist that they are not in a position where they have to sell him to balance the books at Goodison Park this season.

If that is the case, they would likely be unwilling to accept a £50million upfront offer for Branthwaite when they have set their valuation at £70million, unless the add-ons included in the deal were incredibly appealing.

Speculation around this deal is more than likely going to rumble on consistently from now until the end of the summer window and while an exit doesn’t appear imminent, it will be interesting to see if United follow Goldbridge’s advice.
