Maximum Man Utd bid emerges as Everton star really wants transfer after bids - report

Manchester United are expected to “top out” at offering £55million to Everton for Jarrad Branthwaite, Give Me Sport reports.

According to Dean Jones via the outlet’s website on 9 July sources have indicated a belief that the Old Trafford side will not get close to the Toffees’ £70m valuation despite being “extremely eager” to do a deal, amid “frustration” at Goodison Park after a pair of bids well below that level were rejected.

Branthwaite, 22, is said to be “so keen” to make the move that it adds an “extra layer” to the situation, and it is unclear whether he would agitate for it, but some sources have suggested he won’t.

United’s latest offer for the centre-back was worth a total of £50m, with £45m up front [Chris Wheeler, 8 July] and has already been rejected, although personal terms have reportedly been agreed [Telegraph, 13 June].

Everton stay not expected to agitate for Old Trafford exit

Nothing can be taken for granted in a transfer window but it would be a surprise for Branthwaite to push to leave at this stage, having apparently shown no signs of doing so to this point.

Everton have made their stance clear that they aren’t interested in selling for less than their valuation, so if United aren’t willing or able to get close to that they, and potentially the England international himself, could be left disappointed.

Allowing for the fact that manager’s tend to want players who are committed to the cause it would likely take a major potential falling out for Sean Dyche to want rid of Branthwaite, and the defender’s time under the manager has suggested the opposite so far.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe Manchester United
Sir Jim Ratcliffe has been frustrated by Everton in pursuit of Jarrad Branthwaite.

There is a decent argument that the former PSV Eindhoven loanee is the best player in the squad at Goodison Park currently, so losing him for anything other than his full value would be hugely disappointing.

With Lewis Dobbin and Ben Godfrey already sold, and the likes of Amadou Onana and Dominic Calvert-Lewin potentially following before the window shuts, there doesn’t look to be the pressures that Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS would require to get a cut-price deal done barring a major change of circumstances.

In other Everton news, Dan Friedkin’s takeover is not considered to be a formality according to Paul Joyce.
