Medical Booked: Millwall agree deal to re-sign big name - sources

Millwall have agreed a deal to re-sign Japhet Tanganga after his departure from Tottenham, sources have told Football Insider.

Tanganga, 25, will undergo a medical on Monday before finalising his move at the club’s south London training ground.

The defender became available on a free transfer after he was released by Tottenham last month upon the expiry of his contract.

After spending the second half of last season on loan at the New Den, Millwall made his signing a priority ahead of the new season.

Tanganga had been at Spurs since 2009, coming through their academy and playing 50 games for the club before he was released.

Upon his exit, Millwall moved quickly to ensure they would land his signature ahead of potential rivals.

The defender made 18 appearances for Millwall after his January loan move last season, helping them steer clear of the early threat of relegation to finish 13th.

It was a disappointing season for the Lions last time out given their pre-season aspirations of challenging for a playoff place after ending the 2022-23 season just one point away.

However, their early form had them sweating about the prospect of relegation before a turnaround in the second half of the season.

The arrival of new manager Neil Harris and a number of January signings, including Tanganga, played a vital role, with five wins in their final five games finalising their survival.

Millwall are now looking to pick up where they left off ahead of next season, with the re-signing of Tanganga the first stepping stone towards their goals.
