Burnley have beaten Leeds United to the loan signing of Chelsea’s Bashir Humphreys, sources have told Football Insider.
Both clubs submitted loan offers, but Burnley have now agreed to a deal for the central defender after a breakthrough in talks.
A medical is now booked for the 21-year-old ahead of him moving to Turf Moor on a season-long loan.
The England Under-21 international also had the option to move to Elland Road this summer but chose Burnley instead.
Humphreys proved his capability of playing in the Championship last season during a loan spell at Swansea City.
The Chelsea defender made 27 appearances in all competitions for the Welsh outfit, with 24 of which were in the Championship.
Burnley will provide Bashir Humphreys with regular football
Humphreys developed through Chelsea’s academy and has made two first-team appearances for the Premier League giants.
With the Blues having 43 first-team players on the books at the moment, there will be greater opportunities for him to play regularly at Turf Moor.
However, the move will mean that Daniel Farke needs to go back to the drawing board as he looks to enhance his defensive options at Leeds.
Leeds will be hoping for better luck in their pursuit of an attacker before the transfer window shuts.
