Negotiations at an early stage as another Rangers loan exit on the cards - Sky Sports

Rangers defender Ben Davies is wanted by Birmingham City on loan ahead of the transfer deadline, according to Sky Sports.

The British broadcaster reported on 23 August at 14:37 that talks are ongoing between the two clubs over the sale of the 29-year-old centre-back.

However, negotiations are at an initial stage and Philippe Clement has refused to get drawn into speculation surrounding the Englishman.

He said: “I know things but I will not go into rumours. Until things are signed and things are sure, I can not say anything about that now.”

Gers have already parted ways with a host of players this summer including Connor Goldson, Jose Cifuentes, Ryan Jack, John Lundstram and Borna Barisic, among others.

Johnly Yfeko also secured an exit over the past few weeks, but he ended up leaving on loan.

The next one out of the door needs to be Davies as he’s struggled under multiple managers and is not someone who can stake a legitimate claim of being in the strongest eleven.

The 29-year-old has struggled with his form and other than being someone who can be an option in defence capable of playing with his left foot.

Rather than a loan, Gers should push for a permanent sale as his valuation will only reduce next summer.

They can use the funds to bring in a younger defender who could learn from some of the senior pros and be ready to play regularly in a few months’ time.
