Neil McCann believes Rangers won’t sack Philippe Clement despite their 2-1 defeat to Aberdeen at Pittodrie on Wednesday (30 October).
The Gers now find themselves nine points adrift of the second-placed Dons and the pressure upon Clement’s shoulders has started to rise massively.
Speaking live on BBC Sportscene (30 October, 19:15), McCann shared why he doesn’t think Clement will be sacked.
“Yes I think he will [be given more time],” he said.
“I mean where are they going to go, I think he’ll be given time, he just signed a new contract and he’s talking about building for the future but the future is now.
“The Rangers fans might not want to give him time because nine points behind Aberdeen at this moment in time is not going to be accepted.”
Rangers need to sack Philippe Clement before it’s too late
The Gers have been one of the worst-performing teams in the Scottish Premiership this season in terms of where they were expected to be in the table.
They may find themselves third but the fact there’s a nine-point gap between themselves and the second-placed Dons shows how poor they’ve been.
John Gilligan may well have backed the Belgian publically on Sky Sports (24 September) but it feels like he may need to backtrack on his words and try something new.
Ever since the summer transfer window, things haven’t gone quite to plan for the club and while some arrivals such as Vaclav Cerny’s have paid off, a lot of the Gers’ newbies have been below par.
If Rangers want to come away with anything this season, it feels like a change in manager is the best way for them to do that.
Only time will tell whether Gilligan will listen to fans but if not, he could have a lot to answer for by the end of the term.
In other Rangers news, Chris Sutton was left outraged by what James Tavernier did against Aberdeen.
