Newcastle Sources: Significant Adrien Rabiot update tonight

Newcastle United have been put off by the demands of free agent Adrien Rabiot, sources have told Football Insider.

The Magpies have explored a potential swoop for the midfielder, who is available after leaving Juventus in June.

Football Insider revealed on Monday (9 September) that Man United are currently finding a free transfer swoop for Rabiot too expensive.

The 29-year-old and his representatives are working hard to fix him up with a new club with the 2024-25 campaign well underway.

However, his salary and contract demands are currently too costly for Newcastle and Man United.

The Red Devils are long-term admirers of Rabiot, who is the highest-profile free agent still available.

Sources say Magpies chiefs will require the France international to reduce his demands to sanction a deal.

Rabiot must decrease demands to seal Newcastle move

The Tyneside club are looking to bolster their ranks with a deal for the midfielder but will not pay over the odds for his signature.

Rabiot, who is also wanted in Turkey and Saudi Arabia, played regularly for France at Euro 2024 but was left out of their most recent squad as he is without a club.

He made 35 appearances across all competitions for Juventus last term, notching five goals and three assists.

Newcastle have recently welcomed back Sandro Tonali in central midfield after his ban, while Bruno Guimaraes and Sean Longstaff are also options for Eddie Howe.

Man United have Casemiro, Kobbie Mainoo and Manuel Ugarte to call on in midfield but lost Scott McTominay to Napoli in the summer window.
