Neymar hits out at Man City star as fall-out takes new twist

Neymar has taken to social media and turned his attention to the controversy surrounding Rodri’s recent Ballon d’Or win.

Speaking on Spanish TV show El Hormiguero, the 28-year-old opened up on beating Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior to the most prestigious individual award in football.

When asked about the Brazilian, Rodri said, “I think Vini is a smart guy and with time he will realize that the more you pay attention on the field, the better you will be. Athletes are not just what they represent on the field, but also off it.”

Real Madrid opted to boycott the Paris ceremony upon learning that Vinicius would not win the award, despite the club being named Club of the Year and manager Carlo Ancelotti receiving the Best Coach of the Year award after their La Liga and Champions League double.

Both Neymar, 32, and Rodri have suffered major ACL tears over the past 12 months, with the Brazilian having another setback during his first game back with Al Hilal.

Pep Guardiola’s side have suffered without Rodri, losing their last four consecutive games across all competitions for the first time since the legendary coach took over in 2016.

Unhappy with Rodri’s most recent comments, Neymar took to Instagram to call the midfielder a ‘talker’ as the fall-out from the controversy takes a new twist.

Rodri is unlikely to return this season as City sit five points behind Arne Slot’s Liverpool side in the race for the Premier League title.

The current champions will have to continue to make do as they prepare for their game against Tottenham on Saturday (November 23).
