Manchester United should be in a comfortable position from a profit and sustainability (PSR) perspective this season following the sales of Mason Greenwood and Scott McTominay.
That is the view of former Man City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider those deals will provide Man United with sizeable player-trading profits.
Borson previously told Football Insider the Premier League giants would have breached the PSR rules last season if they weren’t allowed to add back certain exceptional costs.
But they are not expected to face any such problems this season after academy graduates Greenwood and McTominay were sold to Marseille and Napoli, with those deals raking in more than £50million.
Man United to avoid PSR issues after confirming several deals
Borson revealed Man United’s commercial deals with Snapdragon and Adidas will also ensure they remain on the right side of the PSR line.
He told Football Insider: “It’s worth saying they didn’t actually end up with any PSR issues last season because it appears they did have the allowances for Covid and the £35million spent on the Ratcliffe fundraise.
“But for that, they would have had problems and it does set the sort of starting point.
“But on the numbers that I have done, I think they will be comfortably positioned for PSR for the current season.
“That is particularly down to the sales of Greenwood and McTominay. That will give them some quite sizeable profits from a player-trading perspective.
“We all know United are one of the most successful clubs commercially, so that will be strong again.
“They have just brought on Snapdragon for this season. There is the new Adidas deal that either kicked off this season or will kick off next season.
“But either way, it’s another good deal and commercially they remain strong.
“They will be fine this year.”
