Bryan King has suggested there might be some behind-the-scenes tension at Chelsea as Tottenham prepare a bid for Conor Gallagher.
The ex-Spurs scout doesn’t understand why the Blues would even consider letting the midfielder leave Stamford Bridge.
As per Ben Jacobs via London is Blue (4 July), “Right now the situation is as it has been for months. Nothing advanced with a new Gallagher deal, Chelsea want £50-55million, Tottenham are likely to bid.”
And King – speaking exclusively to Tottenham News – has had his say on Gallagher’s situation in West London.
“I think £50million is a fair figure for Gallagher,” King said.
“However, I still can’t believe that Chelsea are prepared to let him go. There must be something more than meets the eye here.
“Does he not fancy the new manager, does the new manager not fancy him? Something must have happened behind the scenes to lead to this player maybe becoming available.
“He was one of their best players last season. That therefore implies maybe the new boss doesn’t fancy him.”
Will Tottenham sign Conor Gallagher from Chelsea?
It feels as though Gallagher has been linked with a move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium forever.
Spurs have held a long-standing interest in the 24-year-old, and he could be a player who fits into Ange Postecoglou’s system seamlessly.
However, it looks as though the club would need to pay up.
Convincing Chelsea to sell a player to them would already be difficult enough, and the Blues are therefore unlikely to budge on their valuation.
As a result, whether or not Daniel Levy will be willing to meet that valuation remains to be seen.
