Philippe Clement could let 'Dispensable' Rangers star exit Ibrox this summer - Sky Sports

Rangers could let Todd Cantwell depart Ibrox this summer should the right offer be made for his services, according to Sky Sports.

The outlet reported on its website Friday (14 June) that the Englishman’s 18-month spell in Glasgow could be brought to an end during the transfer window if a team is to match the Light Blues’ asking price.

Both Sam Lammers and Jose Cifuentes could depart permanently before the start of next season, but there is a belief that Cantwell, Tom Lawrence and Jack Butland may also be sold if the correct offers arrive in Glasgow.

The 26-year-old’s displays this season have already seen him labelled “dispensable” this summer, so it wouldn’t be a shock to see offers accepted for his services [Chris Jack, 28 May].

There are few players in this current Rangers team more frustrating to watch than Cantwell. The Englishman is blessed with immense talent and at his best he can be a game-changer, but too often games just pass him by.

In Old Firm games in particular, the midfielder can be guilty of going missing against the Hoops and pundits and supporters alike have repeatedly criticised him for his actions both off and on the playing field.

Philippe Clement is expected to make mass changes to his squad this summer, with the likes of James Tavernier and Ridvan Yilmaz being linked with moves away. But to bring players to Ibrox, he will have to sell some assets.

Alongside the aforementioned pair, Cantwell is one of the few players already in place in Glasgow worth any sort of money in the current market. His stock won’t be as high as it once was, but the 26-year-old is still worth a reasonable fee.

Whether or not anybody will even test the Gers’ resolve with a bid this summer remains to be seen, but should a reasonable offer arrive in Glasgow, it wouldn’t be a shock to see Clement and his team accept it.
