'PIF Have To Get A Grip - Keith Wyness reacts to Newcastle boardroom clash

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has warned Newcastle United owners PIF (Saudi Public Investment Fund) to “get a grip” on boardroom unrest following Amanda Staveley’s departure.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed a “lot of energy has gone out of the club” following the departure of Staveley and husband Mehrdad Ghodoussi.

Manager Eddie Howe and new sporting director Paul Mitchell have been at the centre of inflamed tensions behind the scenes at St James’ Park.

Meanwhile, Wyness told Football Insider earlier this month (6 September) that he is hearing “whispers of dissatisfaction from a number of groups” at the helm of Newcastle.

On the pitch, the Magpies have picked up 10 points from a possible 12 to start the new season and sit third in the Premier League.

PIF must ‘get a grip’ after Newcastle civil war, says Wyness

Wyness insisted Newcastle fans will “demand success” after qualifying for the Champions League in the 2023-24 campaign.

He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “Some behind-the-scenes problems are starting to emerge, which is never good for any club.

“PIF have got to get a grip on that. Since Amanda Staveley and her husband left, a lot of energy has gone out of club – but we’ve got to see how it plays out.

“Newcastle are well-run now, they’re achieving.

“But fans will demand success now. Once you’ve done it, you’ve got to do it again.

“This season we’ll have to watch them closely.

“Eddie Howe’s got the backing and the full support, he’s doing a great job.”
