Conor Gallgher sends message to Chelsea youth in surprise twist

Conor Gallagher sent a good luck message to Chelsea academy stars as they prepare for a youth tournament in Madrid.

Over the summer, the 24-year-old was forced out of Chelsea, his boyhood club, making the switch to Spanish giants Atletico Madrid for £38million.

Gallagher, alongside Lewis Hall, Ian Maatsen, and Omari Hutchinson were all sacrificed in the West London club’s pursuit of ‘pure profit’ to help ease the club’s PSR (Profit and Sustainability rules) troubles.

Enzo Maresca’s side then went on to spend a further £219.9million on the likes of Joao Felix​​, Pedro Neto, and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, taking their total spend under Todd Boehly and Clearlake to £1.1billion.

The England international has taken to Spanish football and Diego Simeone’s rugged system like a duck to water, with Atletico fans already chanting his name.

Gallagher opened his account for the club in their 3-0 victory over Valencia with a well-placed close-range effort in the 39th minute.

One of Chelsea’s many youth teams came to watch their former prodigy play in Atletico’s 2-1 Champions League victory over RB Leipzig on Thursday (September 19) while at a tournament in the Spanish capital.

Gallagher took to Instagram to wish them good luck.

Gallagher and Atletico currently sit in second, above rivals Real Madrid thanks to a superior goal difference, with three wins and two draws in their opening five La Liga games.

Chelsea next face a trip to West Ham in their early kick-off on Saturday (September 21) as they play their third Premier League away game in a row.
