Paul Robinson believes Tottenham would struggle to strike a deal with Aston Villa for attacking star Jacob Ramsey before August 30.

Ange Postecoglou’s side have been constantly linked with a move for the 23-year-old winger, with reports earlier in the transfer window suggesting that Spurs could be willing to explore a player-plus-cash deal [Sky Sports, 8 July].

With only 10 days of the transfer window remaining, plus the signing of Dominic Solanke forcing Son Heung-Min back out to the left flank, Robinson does not think a move for Ramsey will come to fruition.

Speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, Robinson said: “He’s a top-quality player, but I struggle to see a deal happening between Spurs and Villa, with both vying for a Champions League spot this season.

“Solanke coming in will mean that Son Heung-Min will drop into the left-hand side. They’ve also got Brennan Johnson and Timo Werner, and Ramsey is a very similar player to what they’ve already got.”

Tottenham set to miss out on Jacob Ramsey?

Ramsey is an extremely exciting talent, one that the Premier League have been unable to see grow recently after being sidelined with a metatarsal injury for much of the 2023/24 campaign.

However, the winger has already rediscovered his form in a Villa shirt, having come on as a substitute in Villa’s opening-day Premier League game against West Ham, registering the assist for Jhon Duran’s winner.

While Ramsey is clearly a talented winger, it would not make sense for Daniel Levy to splash the cash on the player, especially after sealing a club-record deal for Solanke from Bournemouth [BBC Sport].

Many fans will be disappointed not to strike a deal for the 125-time appearance maker for the Villans, but Ange Postecoglou has more than enough talent at his disposal for the 2024/25 campaign.

In other Tottenham news, Dominic Solanke may not provide the solution to Spurs’ problems after draw v Leicester City.
