Rangers midfielder Mohamed Diomande looks like a “lost soul” at Ibrox under Philippe Clement, according to Derek Ferguson.

The 22-year-old midfielder joined the Light Blues on a permanent basis this summer having impressed during his initial loan spell in Glasgow, but has struggled to hit the heights expected of him.

While Diomande picked up an assist off of the bench against FCSB, Open Goal pundit Ferguson believes the midfielder has looked all at sea so far this season with no idea what his role in Clement’s side should be.

Speaking on the Open Goal YouTube channel (24 October, 39:03) he said: “He’s got players in there that should be producing better.

“Diomande looks a lost soul. He looks so unsure what his job should be.”

What has happened to Rangers ace Mohamed Diomande at Ibrox?

It is safe to say Diomande has not matched the levels expected of him since he made the permanent move back to Glasgow this summer.

The midfielder was rightly viewed as one of the most valuable assets at Clement’s disposal last season, with pundits and supporters alike suggesting the Light Blues would struggle to keep him in Glasgow long-term.

For whatever reason, the quality that he brought to Rangers in the second half of last season has been missing far too often this term, to the point that both Connor Barron and Nicolas Raskin have managed to occasionally keep him out of the team.

Hopefully, Diomande is just suffering a slight dip in form. All players have their good games and bad games and there is every chance this could just be a spell where the 22-year-old is struggling.

Supporters will be hoping that his assist against FCSB is a sign that he is beginning to rediscover his touch again. Rangers are a much better side when a fit and firing Diomande is playing regularly.
