'Quite funny': Gary Lineker says Arne Slot did something this weekend that was just like Jurgen Klopp

New Liverpool manager Arne Slot has made a fine start to life replacing Jurgen Klopp and Gary Lineker has spotted a similarity between the two already.

Slot has guided the Reds to six wins from seven and they battled to a hard-fought 1-0 win at Crystal Palace this weekend.

For Slot, replacing Klopp was always going to be a tough task but so far, he’s making it look easy.

The Dutchman has different mannerisms to the German and so far, he’s been a calmer figure on the touchline and in post and pre-match interviews.

However, while there are differences, Gary Lineker believes that it was quite telling Slot changed his tune on European fixtures quickly.

Speaking on the Rest Is Football podcast, Lineker commented on Slot and his interview after the win at Palace.

And Lineker admitted he found it quite funny how Slot had quickly changed his tune.

“I thought it was quite funny that Arne Slot the day before the game said about after playing in Europe then having to come back and play in the early kick-off, it doesn’t make any difference. It shouldn’t matter, it’s nothing,” Lineker said.

“And then after the game, when his team were a little bit jaded probably, he has gone we really need to look at this.

“Well, they got two injuries, so I understand why he switched it a little bit. Who knows whether that was anything to do with that, but it was quite interesting.”

Slot will fall into similar traps as Klopp

At the end of the day, Liverpool are one of the biggest clubs in the world it’s obvious Arne Slot will quickly learn his words can influence.

Jurgen Klopp used to speak candidly and honestly on this and it was a constant drum that was banged.

For Arne Slot, with things going along so well, he’s not had to really say much negatively as yet.

However, as time ticks on and these early kick-offs continue – especially if Liverpool pick up injuries like the did this weekend – then Slot will get more and more like Klopp.
