Rangers hope to announce brand-new signing before end of play tomorrow - report

Rangers are hoping to complete the signing of Robin Propper from FC Twente by the end of Friday, according to the Daily Record.

On page 47 of their 1 August print edition, it was reported that Philippe Clement is keen to add Propper to his squad by close of business for the week at the latest.

The Gers kick off their 2024-25 Scottish Premiership campaign on Saturday at Hearts, and the manager wants the Dutchman available for selection at Tynecastle.

Propper, 30, has arrived in the UK for a medical before signing and sealing a contract as the club’s newest recruit [Anthony Joseph, 31 July].

Rangers to replace Goldson with Propper

With Connor Goldson having left Ibrox after six years serving the club for a new chapter in Cyprus, it was important the Gers brought in a player of similar experience.

The club are dipping into the transfer kitty to secure the signing of Propper, who it is believed will command around £2.7m to Twente [Daily Record, 31 July].

So far, six of the eight players who have been newly signed to Clement’s first-team squad are aged 22 or under, so the centre-half adds a welcome source of pedigree to the dressing room.

Following the loss of several experienced marksmen who had collectively spent a long time in Glasgow blue, Clement and Nils Koppen are aware that to go toe-to-toe with Celtic this year, the recruitment cannot solely focus on projects for the future.

Standing at 6’3”, Propper adds a steel to the Light Blues’ defence which has lost one of its mainstays to Europe, and it’s hoped he can slot seamlessly into the side having played his entire career to date in his homeland.

In other Rangers news, one player appears to have rejected other clubs in favour of a move to the Gers.
