Rangers look to sell Dessers as links to £5m+ replacement grow in past 36hrs - report

Rangers will look to offload Cyriel Dessers if they are to push for Albion Rrahmani before the transfer deadline, according to Gary Morris from The 4th Official.

The outlet’s YouTube bulletin host said on the 5 August update that links to the Kosovan striker “aren’t going away” and had been particularly strong again over the previous 48 hours.

Romanian journalist Sorin Chiriac reported via Instagram on 29 July that a new bid was expected at Rapid Bucharest for Rrahmani, where they want €6million [£5.05m] plus a sell-on fee.

Morris said: “It’s my understanding that for that to happen Rangers would be looking to try to move on a striker, probably Cyriel Dessers who didn’t have his best game in Edinburgh at the weekend.”

Rrahmani and Lawrence Shankland are probably the two names most heavily linked to a Light Blues move this summer.

Although the latter is believed to now be back on the table after a change of heart from Clement [Daily Record, 29 July] that only came after the pursuit of the Kosovan had been reported for some weeks during the window.

According to Football Scotland the Light Blues had been in pole position to sign him as long ago as 17 June.

The Ibrox boss and senior figures at the club are said to have reservations over Shankland’s ability to press from the front [Rangers Review, 24 July] so it wouldn’t be a shock if his first choice was a target he felt could do so.

Dessers produced 22 goals last season and could probably do the same again this year if he remains the first choice but Clement probably needs someone to score 35 to 40 from the same number of chances as his number one.

The Belgian has barely seen what Danilo can offer thanks to injury and the Brazilian would be harder to shift for the right value after half a season out of action.

Oo if another forward goes it would have to be Dessers, with Sam Lammers now at FC Twente and Kemar Roofe’s contract expired.

The Nigerian has been linked to widespread interest this summer [Rangers Review, 3 July] but a move hasn’t materialised yet so there would have to be a significant change of pace to the developments to get him out and the cash turned round to land Rrahmani if the 24-year-old is to arrive.

In other Rangers news, a £2,000-a-week bargain deal to bring back a former Ibrox ace has been mooted by Keith Jackson amid a “weird” situation at the club.
