Danilo revealed that Philippe Clement tore into his Rangers players at half-time during the 2-1 loss against St Mirren on Boxing Day.
The Gers fell to a shock 2-1 defeat at St Mirren Park on 26 December courtesy of a 93rd-minute Caolan Boyd-Munce goal to pile further pressure on Clement at Ibrox.
However, Danilo spoke to the media post-match, as relayed by Glasgow World [27 December], and revealed Clement held nothing back when the Light Blues went into the half-time interval a goal down.
Asked whether that was the angriest he had ever seen his boss, he said: “Yeah, obviously it’s not our standard, the first half. So to come in the dressing room 1-0 behind, it’s not what we want, especially not at home as well.
“We know that Rangers is about winning, so we know it has to be this mentality. We tried to be our best.”
Philippe Clement and Rangers in serious trouble after St Mirren loss
Clement is undoubtedly feeling the pressure at Rangers and has now resorted to taking his anger out on his players.
The phrase “we tried to be our best” in the aftermath of a shock result against St Mirren will not go down well with the Gers faithful, as the gap to Celtic extends to 12 points at the top of the Scottish Premiership.
However, Danilo played his role perfectly – he was introduced onto the pitch for the second half, replacing Vaclav Cerny, and he found the equaliser for the Light Blues at the stroke of the hour mark.
The Brazilian may have escaped the boss’ wrath, but the same cannot be said for Jack Butland after his “shocking error” allowed the hosts to take the lead via the penalty spot following the goalkeeper’s foul on Greg Kiltie.
Rangers were chasing the game from the moment Oisin Smyth converted the spot-kick in the 30th-minute, and even had Boyd-Munce not found the winner, a share of the spoils is an equally disappointing outcome from the game.
Clement must gather his thoughts and be ready to go again with a quick turnaround until the clash against Motherwell on Sunday [29 December], before another mouth-watering affair against Celtic at Ibrox to welcome in the New Year.
