Rangers to pay extra £1m to seal another new transfer as player agrees long-term deal - reports

Rangers will be signing AS FAR striker Hamza Igamane for £2.5million and not the £1.5million which was previously reported, according to Kora Maroc.

The Moroccan news outlet with over 15k Twitter followers exclusively reported that the 21-year-old will put pen to paper on a five-year contract at Ibrox.

This comes despite claims made by Kora Maroc on 16 June that a £1.5million bid was accepted.

They wrote on Twitter: “As announced exclusively on KoraMaroc, Hamza Igamane joins Rangers for the next 5 years! Transfer amount: €3 million.”

Rangers shelling out a significant fee on someone unproven outside Morocco

Rangers’ decision to sign Igamane for £2.5million from AS FAR is a significant risk.

At 21 years old, he has yet to prove himself outside of Moroccan football, and the Scottish Premiership presents a new and challenging environment.

The substantial fee paid by Gers indicates their belief in his potential, but it also increases the pressure on the young striker to perform.

If the soon-to-be Morocco international struggles to adapt to the physicality and pace of Scottish football, the Ibrox outfit could find themselves with an expensive mistake on their hands.

The club’s scouting and recruitment process will be under scrutiny if Igamane fails to live up to expectations.

Ultimately, only time will tell whether this transfer is a stroke of genius or a costly gamble for the club and fans will be hoping that it’s the former as they hope to reclaim the league title from Celtic.
