Gary Keown blasts Rangers 'Shambles' as behind-the-scenes Philippe Clement speculation shared

Gary Keown believes Philippe Clement will not be happy after it was revealed that Rangers would need to start the season away from Ibrox.

As reported by Chris Jack via the Rangers Review (20 June), the Gers will be forced to start the 2024/25 campaign away from Ibrox due to delays on the reconstruction of the Copland Road end.

And Keown, writing in the Scottish Mail on Sunday (page 101, 23 June), suspects Clement won’t be best pleased.

“It is impossible to look at the latest shambles to play out on the south side of Glasgow without a wry smile,” Keown wrote.

“It is also pretty difficult not to wonder what the Rangers manager Philippe Clement makes of it all. Ever since he came into the club, he has been raising concerns over the way the place has been working.

“From poor management of injuries to players being allowed to walk out of the building for free at the end of their contracts over and over again.”

Rangers could struggle to qualify for the UEFA Champions League after Ibrox development

This is far from an ideal development for Clement and the Gers ahead of the 2024/2025 campaign getting underway.

If Rangers have any hope of closing the gap to Celtic both on and off the pitch then they need the financial boost which comes from qualifying for the group stages of the UEFA Champions League.

However, being forced to play their qualifying matches away from Ibrox will make that task all the more difficult.

Should the Gers miss out on the £40million boost which comes with qualifying for the Champions League then it is hard to see how they beat Celtic to the Scottish Premiership next season.

The Ibrox atmospheres so often proves key for Rangers on big nights, especially in Europe.

However, the club’s supporters will now need to generate that atmosphere away from their home ground.

And if Clement was frustrated before, this development is sure to have tipped him closer to the edge.

In other Rangers news, the club are now ready to sell a player deemed “surplus to requirements” at Ibrox.
