Report: Bologna have just held talks with possible Riccardo Calafiori replacement as Arsenal talks continue
This could be promising... ????
Arsenal’s hopes of landing Riccardo Calafiori are being tested this week as the two clubs look to find a resolution.
Mikel Arteta will have been hoping for Riccardo Calafiori to have joined up with his side in pre-season but no agreement has been found.
No agreement between the clubs, that is, as Calafiori has already agreed to a five-year deal with Arsenal.
That was two weeks ago, though, and no resolution between the two clubs has been found to get the deal over the line.
Bologna have already seen some considerable exits this summer with their manager and Joshua Zirkzee already finding themselves new clubs.
And it now looks like Bologna could be preparing for life after the 22-year-old as they look to make a splash in the market.
Bologna lining up move for new centre-back
There is a lot of questions still surrounding the situation involving Calafiori’s future.
Bologna are said to be looking for more from Arsenal financially as they owe Calafiori’s former side FC Basel who hold a sell-on clause.
Arsenal are believed to be willing to up their Calafiori bid, but only be up to £1.7m which would fall well short of what the Serie A outfit are said to be asking for.
As things stand, Bologna are expecting to see Calafiori return to them for pre-season training after his delayed summer break ends.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Bologna are now eyeing the potential signing of centre-back Daniele Rugani from Juventus.
The Italian club have now met with the representatives of Rugani who has now met with the Bologna sporting director Giovanni Sartori.
Rugani is set to leave Juventus despite having two years remaining on his deal, but Bologna could offer him a landing spot with Champions League on offer.
Arsenal could take confidence from Bologna movement
Arsenal have further transfer meetings with Bologna scheduled to try and find a resolution for Calafiori.
But there is the belief that Bologna would not be willing to sell Calafiori without finding themselves a replacement.
Now, this could well be in the works with Bologna looking to Rugani as their potential successor for the 22-year-old.
The 29-year-old would arrive with plenty of experience in Italy and, more importantly to Arsenal fans, could open the exit door for Calafiori.
