Report: Club hire new manager and enter talks to sign 'incredible' £30m Arsenal player who wants to leave

Arsenal could now be making significant progress in their attempts to offload a forward who is currently on the periphery of things in north London.

If there’s one criticism you could levy at Mikel Arteta and Edu right now, it’s the club’s consistent inability to recoup suitable deals for their departing players.

Granit Xhaka’s move to Bayer Leverkusen was perhaps the best example of that trend last summer.

After years of struggles at Arsenal, Xhaka appeared to be hitting his peak, but was sold for just £21m

Although all seemed amicable for Xhaka to seek a new challenge, Arsenal should have still dug their heels in over the midfielder’s valuation.

And without an obvious destination for the keeper this summer, some Arsenal fans may fear that the club will also struggle to recoup a befitting fee for Aaron Ramsdale should he leave.

That being said, perhaps the Gunners are set to have better luck with Eddie Nketiah, who is now in talks to sign for Olympique Marseille.

Eddie Nketiah wants to leave Arsenal for Marseille after initial contact is made

According to Footmercato, new Marseille manager Roberto De Zerbi wants to bring Nketiah to Ligue 1.

A host of Premier League clubs have been linked with Nketiah of late, and it seems as if De Zerbi may have taken his recommendation to the French side.

According to the report, 25-year-old Nketiah is open to a new challenge, and initial discussions between Marseille and the ‘incredible’ striker have already begun.

Nketiah, who could cost interested clubs around £30m, could then follow a similar route to Matteo Guendouzi who also left north London for Marseille.

Any deal is still said to be in the early stages, however first contacts are said to have been ‘positive’.

Although it’s always regrettable to see a Hale-Ender leave Arsenal, a departure for Nketiah makes a lot of sense this summer.

Kai Havertz’s move to a centre-forward role has pushed Nketiah to third choice, also behind Gabriel Jesus.

And the prospect of the England international playing significant minutes next season appears very slim.

Of course, any fee that Arsenal then are able to recoup could be crucial in funding their own transfer plans.

And Arteta has already decided which forward he wants Arsenal to buy.
