Keith Wyness: Leicester City hit by shattering new transfer blow

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness has claimed Leicester City will be forced to rely on loans and free transfers this summer amid financial concerns at the club.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed the Foxes will need “someone to show up from the youth ranks” next season.

Leicester face a potential points deduction in the 2024-25 campaign after being charged with a breach of Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) earlier this year.

The Midlands side have made a total loss of £215million across their last three top-flight campaigns, with clubs only permitted to lose £105million over three years under PSR.

Steve Cooper has recently been appointed as Leicester’s new boss after Enzo Maresca moved to Chelsea earlier this summer.

Wyness claimed Cooper “will give them a good chance” of survival next season.

He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “Leicester should have some youngsters coming through.

“Experience is valuable in the Premier League, but they need someone to show up from the youth ranks next season.

“What they’ll be able to do in terms of signings will be limited.

“They’ll be looking at loans, they’ll be looking at free transfers.

“They’ll do the best they can, and Steve Cooper will give them a good chance.

“He knows what he wants and how to put the squad together, and he’ll do everything he can.”
