Everton manager Sean Dyche was not interviewed by the FA for the England manager’s job, according to the Daily Mail.
The outlet reported on its website on Friday (18 October) that none of Dyche, Eddie Howe, Graham Potter, Frank Lampard, Gary O’Neil, Steve Cooper or Russell Martin were interviewed to become Gareth Southgate’s successor.
Real Madrid boss and former Toffees manager Carlo Ancelotti also wasn’t approached to take over the Three Lions, with the Italian denying links with the England job on Friday afternoon.
Thomas Tuchel has been named as the latest England boss, with the FA confirming on Wednesday (16 October) that the former Chelsea boss had penned an 18-month deal to take the Three Lions to the next World Cup.
Will Sean Dyche exit Everton amid Goodison Park speculation?
It never seemed likely that Dyche would be the next Three Lions boss, but various pundits and players alike were quick to suggest the Everton boss should at least be considered to fill Southgate’s seat at Wembley.
Although the former Burnley manager has never taken charge of a side competing for silverware season in and season out, his record in the Premier League is impressive and he tends to get the best out of his players.
For the Toffees, however, the FA’s decision to ignore Dyche could well be a blessing in disguise. There are few managers better at keeping teams in the Premier League than the Englishman and that remains their number one priority at this stage.
Hopefully, the Blues boss will do exactly that again this season, and then his future will come back into focus later on down the line, particularly with his current contract at Goodison Park set to expire at the end of the campaign.
With one potential job now off of his radar, Dyche has to show the new Everton owners that he has what it takes to lead the Toffees into the new era on Merseyside.
