Rangers want to sign Joan Jordan from Sevilla but a transfer is still some way off from happening, according to the Scottish Sun.
The newspaper reported via its website on 19 July that the fact that Gers are not willing to meet Sevilla’s demands for the Spanish midfielder means that a deal is not imminent.
The 30-year-old, despite being told that he has no future at the La Liga outfit, wants to fight for his spot there.
Rangers may have to convince Joan Jordan over Ibrox transfer
Signing Jordan is going to be tough for Gers this summer even though Sevilla are doing everything they can to push him out.
Then, there is the additional interest from other clubs in Spain potentially making things more complicated than they already are.
It’s also understood that the Spanish authorities are unhappy with how Sevilla are dealing with this issue and have been monitoring the situation. [Mundo Deportivo]
If the 30-year-old continues to be frozen out against his wishes, he’s more likely to want to stay closer to home.
Thus far, nothing has suggested he prioritises a move to Ibrox and if Gers are serious about signing him, it’s about time they begin talks with his representatives.
If Philippe Clement promises to build his team around Jordan and explain why they can win the title again, it may tempt the Spaniard to leave.
In other Rangers news, a £3.5m-rated player linked with a move to Ibrox has recently gone on strike and appears set for a transfer.
