Rangers face a race against time for the “rutted” Hampden Park pitch to be ready for them to play this August, according to the Scottish Daily Mail.

The newspaper reported in its print edition (6 July, page 120) that with Hampden looking the most likely destination for the Gers to temporarily play home games during redevelopments at Ibrox, the national stadium is far from ready to host Philippe Clement’s side at present.

Following a reseeding process after two Pink concerts, the Gers will hope that the currently bare turf grows enough in time to host home matches next month.

Shipping issues have delayed redevelopments ongoing in the Copland Road Stand at Ibrox, necessitating a relocation for the start of the season with Hampden being the preferred option over Murrayfield [Stephen McGowan, 22 June].

Rangers still no closer to knowing Hampden Park playing status

The Gers are fully into the pre-season swing with their first matches of the campaign – Champions League qualifiers – set to take place in a little over 30 days.

However, for all the change going on within the squad itself as Clement leads a massive overhaul, arguably the biggest question is where the Belgian’s new signings will be making their home debuts.

The resurfacing of a pitch is usually something clubs intend to carry out straight after the end of a previous season, to give the new grass more time to bed in, grow, and be cut accordingly.

However, with the Scottish Football Association owning Hampden and unable to carry out this work until after their scheduled concerts, the image of a bare-laden surface is hardly good news.

Still not knowing where they’ll be playing their first matches of the season – as those creep into view – is hardly ideal preparation for Clement and his side ahead of a crucial campaign; one which has already seen enough upheaval and change to last two summers [Barry Ferguson, 22 June].
