Revealed: Ruben Amorim hit by crushing Man United January blow

Man United will struggle to make any signings in the January transfer window for new boss Ruben Amorim, sources have told Football Insider.

The Red Devils’ budget has been stretched after Erik ten Hag was sacked last week and replaced with the costly appointment of Amorim.

Finance expert Stefan Borson told Football Insider on Sunday (3 November) that Man United could have spent up to £37.5million on their managerial change.

Amorim was appointed as the club’s new boss on 1 November after Old Trafford chiefs agreed to pay Sporting Lisbon £9.25million in compensation.

He will start work on 11 November ahead of his first match against Ipswich Town on 24 November.

Sources say it will be difficult under Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) for Amorim to spend any money in the January transfer window.

Amorim won’t get January signings in Man United blow

Potential exits in the new year could free up funds for the new boss to bring in signings, but it is believed United chiefs are not panicking about needing new arrivals.

It is understood a huge summer of ins and outs lies ahead for Man United in 2025 as Amorim vies to get his feet under the table at Old Trafford.

United currently sit 13th in the table after interim boss Ruud van Nistelrooy led them to a 1-1 draw against Chelsea on Sunday (3 November).

Van Nistelrooy will also take charge of games against PAOK and Leicester this week.
